Vagabond Heart

A matter of self.

Soliloquy by evening
under the chilling purple
of the darkening mist
settling in the treetops
that frosts in place
 the freezing uncertainty
of the vagabond heart
that flows over the space
where this person
once lived a life,

Steadily it encircles,
entwining in its branches,
the unbelieving mind
telling it without mercy
that no longer is there home,
no longer is there care.
There is only the space
of a wide, unquestioning world
that really doesn't care
if this soul
was meant to be,
leaving it rootless
and falling.

Call out over the tumult,
you who would believe
through the icing deep
of this consuming forest
lest this vagabond heart
fails to set its
latest victim free.
Pierce through
the enshrouding fogs
of confusion and grief
that before the
foundations of time,
this person was meant to be,
and will return with me.

This brings to mind the song "Bring back my Baby to me." It is a calling out for her to come back and you being a vagabond right now isn't too much fun. She will come sailing back into your life before you know it and maybe you will find true happiness then.

loneliness, feeling unsure...the mind can play tricks and deceive the heart into thinking that no one cares...
You expressed these feelings well with a perfect personification.

Vagabond, hobo all people whose live have been broken, yet they all have a strong institution to continue on and live with a life created in their minds. This has the feel of a hollow point, as if a family member or close friend has drifted away and you wait and pray for their return....

Be always safe,
Karen

Jerry, I know, I know, I say this every time, but this is really one of your very best. There seems to be an unnamed element here and it's very haunting. The writing is superb. Loved it!

Jerry my friend, now this is what I call Poetry, a wonderfully creative picture you painted in rich colours, with a most deep perspective of the human soul and the longing of love and care, by the creator, he is sure deeply in you, no need searching. Bless You! Jasmin Horst

Jerry,

The opening is exquisite; you grab the reader's heart and give it a squeeze - powerfully penned wonderment.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

Your word choices and arrangement are exquisite. "Unquestioning world that really doesn't care" about the soul - yet does the soul care enough for itself to keep hanging on? Alas, we know that things are never quite as they seem.

This is a chilling, lonely poem. The poet seems to be in a mood of isolation, believing that no one cares. I like the treetops metaphor. The command to "call out" will surely win over, bringing the vagabond heart back to a comfort zone, along with whoever the victim could be.

Your weaving of your words are out of the norm special. What talent you possess and how beautiful and touching is the poem. Cheers, Deborah
