Elegance Alabaster

The truly arrogant, the truly mean and cruel, the truly too proud--we've all known these people. What irony that they fantasize themselves differently. In the spring, they tend to cock their hats, and walk about.

Elegance alabaster,

the thin and crooked smile,

condescending and confident eyes,

the half-closed lids,

blessed with intelligence

and instinctive grace,

the curse of true beauty,

the face that God hates.

Even now,

 on only the beginning darkness

 of your final era,

the end of benevolent grace,

the demons you have nursed

scream with the heat

of final devouring wishes,

cracking and shattering

the hard, white surface

so carefully cultivated

just below your

unblemished, scrubbed skin,

so you scream and gnash

in the anguish of nightmare,

so hard, so hard,

so harsh, so harsh,

the heart that you have built,

the house that would have you

take His place.

Elegance alabaster,

look down through

the black pools of your eyes

through the ice-bound clarity

of what has become.

Elegance alabaster,

would I,

with many others,

have been your friend,

but you’re spiraling,

spiraling to the end,

your hair untwirling

in a final dance

of desperate pretence.

Yes...we all know people like this. Sadly, there are many that live in their elegant alabaster worlds...not wanting to reach out and touch those who would make their stark worlds gleam with brilliance and color.

This poem speaks of a SAD Naked TRuth!
I know a few and I stay my distance, it's usually an insecurity that spurrs them on!

A cold hard piece of marble masterfully cut Jerry, imbued with your emotions and deep knowing of human nature, blessed with your poetic tongue, and wrecking havoc on the pretentious and sinful. You my friend stike the fear of God into those so afflicted, you are truly his right hand man, May He Bless You always! Jasmin Horst

Excellent poem, Jerry, but you have taken me by surprise yet again. This is defintely not your usual. I sense a lot of feeling (anger?) here.

Far too many live in a world of their own thinking they are so far above the common man, yet the reality is we are all the same. Nice to read your work again....

Be always safe,

Strong and compelling lines, Jerry. I know the type of whom you write and have come to believe that their way is traceable to a deeply-rooted insecurity masked over in carefully layered, self-adopted attributes in order to project a particular image. The problem is that the true void in their being is never filled in this manner and the potential they once had for authenticity and grace becomes suffocated.

A finely crafted expression of the arrogant elitist.
Yes, those that walk in a haughty manner with an artful or simulated semblance. Raging waves of the sea, foaming up their own shame; wandering stars for whom is reserved the blackness of darkness forever. These unsupportable qualities that are embraced are but mists that appear and disappear in the ever-flowing river of time.
Blessings ...
