Sorry if I offend, but sometimes I dash off a write about a current situation, that makes a good poem, but on second thought, don't post it, because people think everything I write is about me! I know others feel this way too.

I have so many fine friends
Whom I love at Authors Den
I hope this poem does not offend
I think we all have felt this way
When our words cause dismay
Forgetting all poems are not personal
Poets must have more than self, in arsenal
Of course we write from what we know
That does not mean it's a present woe
Sometimes I write of experience long past
In which I've learned from what to fast
Perhaps of a friend or relative come to mind
As a poet I'm quick to become inclined
To share certain matters that I may find
Some act like the den is a soap opera
Worrying over posts in dire operatic aria
I wish we would comment without hysteria
We should just write whatever pleases us
Without having to give a reason or cause a fuss
We go through this periodically, and should know
Poetry is a gift, should be allowed to flow
~~*~~
Just as an example, one of my last posts only 12 out of 28 mentioned the poem. This happens all the time we comment with our take on the content, sometimes forgetting to say anything pro or con about the poem.We all have done it, some more than others.
It's fine to have our say about the theme, but at least say good or bad poem or make some mention of it.
Please know this is not about critique, which I would greatly appreciate!!!

If reviews are going to govern how you write
You've lost the battle.
Saddle up.
Sure, we're all human, we want to be taken seriouly.
But seriously, quit thinking about the chains of reviews
And start thinking about the freedom of writing.
If you don't think I have a clue, I'm new here, just look at
my one and only review. It's was like to give everybody here a laugh, yet onward I go. I'm still writing.
You have made the point well, E.T.
And I enjoy your works immensely, too.
Love, B&R
Good onya for bringing this up, we all need reminding.

There’s an immense difference
Between poetic experience and creative commentary
Between inspired appraisal
And simple encouragement,
Secondary to the craft it envelops
Poets must have more than self, in arsenal <----So very true everyone should cheer The Arsenal...My Soccer team..yey.. C'mon the reds...

I'm with you as per our usual thoughts and wishes.
Thanks for the nudge. I, for one...needed it!

I know where you are coming from...
In many people's eyes Author's Den is a gigantic Soap Opera, with
all the High Drama and Tension of a huge and extended family, of all shades and opinions, and complexities...
Your premise is strong and resolute, however whether any of them will take one blind notice of your protestations is anybody guess...:)
Being a keen and avid student of human nature...I suspect not...and that the Drama will continue..
God Bless

i am one of the ones who was off base yesterday!

and yes your poem was good, and to the point..........people do that all the time with me.....give me comical one liners, and ignore the poem, even before i started the cookie wars........

As each poem is individually created by inspiration so each piece is interpreted individually. As my English tutor used to say, 'you do not need to know the reason for the poem, it is what you get from it as a reader that shines'. "Twas brillig and the slithy toves did gybe and gimble in the wabe..." - Lewis Carroll took us somewhere with Jabberwocky, like it or loathe it, I bet for each of us it was to a different individual place. Personally my pace and style differs dependent on the subject matter, which as you say, may be a new or old theme in one's life...poetry I believe is such a hard medium,...when I write on whatever subject matter, I am not expecting an understanding of myself, but just an understanding perhaps that I was inspired creatively and needed to express that moment...for me that works.
Kapow! ...poetry is a gift, should be allowed to flow... a pertinent close that gives room for much reflection.
No offence taken and I hope none given.

This construct is like a red hot poker stuck into the poetic flesh of staid thinking and perception.
I could not agree more with the contention of this piece. This construct was timely and should be construed as such by all the readers.
Not everything poets write is about themselves, as if the poetic forum is a psychiatrists chair where we all bemoan our woes to one another.
I agree that sometimes people need to put that "thing" out there for advice and sympathy, this is good, necessary, and therapeutic at times, and often gives the person the strength to deal with the situation they are confronted with.
What about the most important part of being a poet - creative thought and the expression of such.
Massive amounts of Kudos for stirring the pot.

It truly amazes me how so many, get so bent out of shape around here, so often!
May We All - Just Write On.
PS Very Good Poem.
I do a lot of work with our hospital's bereavement committee and thus, write a lot of sympathy-based poems about friends, families, and loved ones for use in the hospital's "sympathy card" project. On many occasions, when I have posted the poems here and explained the situation, I have seen comments such as 'Sorry for your loss,' etc., even if I explained why the poem was written. I think all poems are open to individual interpretation and what one receives from a work may be an entirely different meaning than what someone else is able to take from the reading. That fact, alone, is why I write, first and foremost, for my own satisfaction. That way, if others don't like it, I'm still happy.
Anyway, I always appreciate your style for its uniqueness, even if I sometimes fail to mention so, while voicing my take on your work. ;-) Again, brilliant way, in this poem, of reminding others regarding how the 'comment board' should work!
Have a great day!
Jill
