Poem Artwork

There on the top of the mountain
Trees reaching up to touch heaven
Branches holding hands out to God
The fingers splayed in supplication
The wind chanting through the leaves
A prayer of unison to send new birth
To the eroding environment on earth

There in the wondrous oceans
Waves reaching heights unknown
Lifting their white caps to heaven
In a prayer to make hardship known
That the seas are full of pollution
Beyond anything ever seen before
Many inhabitants are in dissolution
Please send help quickly to ocean floor

There in the populated valleys and hills
Towns, villages,  cities,  everywhere
People  gathering together all of one will
Hands upraised to God in fervent prayer
Sometimes we wonder if You hear us
We have not been good to Your creation
Our voices may sound like an unholy chorus
Yet we wait for answers in every Nation

unfortunately, we'll be waiting til our eyes bleed ... we're on our own and only we can change our destiny ... i believe we are in the process of doing so, hopefully before we destroy ourselves ...

quite a spiritually reflective poem ...

Powerfully imaged and penned, Eileen, would that we, who were created in His image, would learn from nature ... well done.

We forget too hastily about the land that God gave to Cain, the oldest of all brothers, that for his actions inherited a barren world.

Beautiful supplication, Eileen! He hears us but we were given the gift of free will, and empowered with the task of being caretakers of this planet. Creation exists to teach us harmony and balance. We have failed to learn as we have lost our connection to this earth. There is hope. We have been given warnings and many are now taking heed. I just purchased 'Silent Spring' by Rachel Carson. I haven't read it since the '70's. It has been re-released and is as relevant, if not more, today as when she first wrote it in 1962. "Unholy chorus" indeed...
