Are The Poets?
By La Belle Rouge
with all the world desperately wounded
greedily grasping for a thread of peace
are poets the spokesmen of universal pain
effectively articulating what others can’t?
some take a vacation, take a drug, a drink
to escape the reality of their suffering
artists of the world fill an empty canvas
compose a song, pen a poem to embrace
mysteries of life, its beauty and brutality
some hide away their hearts and questions
while the artists dare to dissect them publicly
and scorn the passing opinions of the world
not elated by praise nor dejected by hate
they paint, compose, pen of soulful necessity
are poets the forerunners of apocalypse
and the wingless harbingers of heaven?

We speak with a voice of reason in a world so often without any reason at all. We are peace loving, law abiding, God-fearing bunch who try to make a difference in the lives of those who may not be. I've always believed that a poet's "gift" is instilled in the heart, at birth, even if it takes years to uncover or discover the gift. Once we do, there's no stopping us!
Beautiful tribute to those of us who give so much of our hearts, for the sake of greater good, even if we receive little in return.
