beneath the stalwart oak
she laid her weary head
as she dreamed of the day
her own true love she wed
in memory’s green arbor
where the jasmine grows
there securely revealing
secrets only a lover knows
she felt his tender fingers
caress her upturned face
love whispered in her ear
hot kisses cold pain erased
and she was well contented
to dream there for a while
covered only in his love
worshipped by his smile
when dark mourning came
with golden morning sun
her sweet dream was ended
when it had only just begun
but the jasmine scented arbor
will forever call to her again
and beloved sheltering oak
will be her eternal friend
