The Stranger

He walked into town on a rainy day.
He spent hours in the library
because he had nowhere to stay.
Some said he looked familiar
but they couldn't place how.
I guess none of that matters now.

He was clothed like any other man
shirt and jeans, no rings on his hand.
Looked no different from any common man.
His face was average, his hair was long.
He told stories to the children
and taught them a song..

Don't know where he spent the night.
The next day was warm and fair
During hospital visitation he was there
and he also visited the nursing home,
giving love to the sick and alone.

Many patients had stories to tell
of how they were sick
but now they are well.
Who was this stranger?
Odd, we couldn't guess or know
but miracles followed wherever he'd go.

He visited the prison, said a prayer
for those rightly or wrongly sentenced
and incarcerated there.
The prisoners were grateful.
We heard they had cried,
When hearing about a savior who died.

He went to see the orphans
and the widows too.
He gave them love and joy
and a hope that was brand new.
To the women at the brothel door
He said, “Your're forgiven, go sin no more.”

On Sunday he walked into
the grandest church in town.
He stood up to teach God's word
and was ordered to sit down.
The preacher said he should cut his hair
wear Sunday clothes, not blue jeans there.

So he left and took his message away
but “the least” prospered since that day.
Sick were healed, the outcasts found peace.
Much anger, crime and sadness ceased.
Some who met him were sure they had seen
The Son Of God, dressed in blue jeans.

A wonderful depiction of a modern day Christ
in blue jeans…
Really brings home the old message of
care, compassion and connection… yet rejection of someone
who brings only love into peoples hearts…
A timely reminder to us all to look into our own hearts…

Outstanding tale to remind all Christians what Christ was really like. How he traveled among the common people and served them first.

Your poem is particularly poignant at a time when churches preach financial wealth and well-being and support leaders who care nothing of the poor, only asking for more riches so they could be more important in the new world of wealth makes right and the poor, deserve it.
