I need someone
who will love me
for who I am,
who never will
desert me for greener
grasses
I need someone
who would never
dream of not raising
his own children,
who would never
dream of seeing
them coddled
in another man's arms
I need someone
dignified, instilled
with integrity
who will not lie,
cheat and steal
just because his kids
are looking in another
direction at the moment,
someone
who will be happy
to help with house
chores,
who isn't so sold
on himself that he
can't wash a dish
or make a bed
or take out the cat
box or garbage--
whichever is needed
I need someone
who will cheer me
up when I'm down,
yet bring me down
gently
when my feet
are too far off the
ground
I need someone
who's like a pillow
in that I can rest my
weary head on him,
yet like a rock,
to which I can
cling thus avoid
being swept away--
out into some sea
of chaos, some ocean
of regret and
permanent harm
I admit I need
someone super,
who isn't a great
pretender
but I, too, am
super
I feel it all the
way down to the
sunken chambers
of my heart and soul.
And once he's found,
I'll always be
the great defender.
His, of course.
