Cure for Cancer

I haven't said anything when people post things related to the search for a cure for cancer, but I've always wondered if those who post know what they are asking. Obviously, I understand the pain and heartbreak cancer brings to millions of people both victims and their loved ones. Both of my own parents eventually died of different forms of cancer. And I understand that those who post and cry out for a cure are basically concerned about somehow seeing an end to this horrible plague we call cancer. What we often forget is that cancer, many times, leads in the end to death and death is a mandate of God (for us believers). This is evidenced mainly in Genesis 3:19 ("By the sweat of your brow you will eat your food until you return to the ground, since from it you were taken; for dust you are and to dust you will return." NIV)

Now, God doesn't say how we're to die but He clearly says we'll die. There's no if but a when. If one cancer is cured or eradicated, people will clamor for all the other kinds of cancer to be cured. Well, cancer and heart-related problems are the planets two biggest killers. So, eliminate one and you have the other. There's no point in talking about this topic with non believers for it's all rubbish to them. But for us believers, we have to first trust the God in whom we believe. Then we must accept His mandates (death is only one of other mandates). We cannot easily say we love God and put our trust in Him then rant and rave at the first sign of death in the family. We are then arguing with the God we profess to love and worship. If a drunk driver kills one of our loved ones, we have to rant and rave against the system and against the driver, not against God. He didn't manufacture the alcohol. One day I was upset because I realized my mother was dying. But then I realized what I should be thinking: I should thank God for having had my mother 50 years instead of being upset! I knew many people who had had their mothers much less than that many years! I'd even met orphans over the years.

So, in the end, if cancer were to be cured completely, we'd say we want a cure for heart attacks and heart-related diseases. Then on down the road we'd say we want a cure for hundreds of other illnesses including death itself! Period. Well, that would be a wish to eradicate a mandate of God Himself, would it not? If you believe in Him as I do, you'll know that if He wanted death itself cured, He'd do it Himself. But He did, though, didn't He? That's what heaven is about, is it not? So in the end, the cure for cancer is the same as the cure for death: getting to heaven!!! Get there and you've got all the cures you'll ever need! Easy? No way. Possible? Of course, as are all things with God.
