As I picked up the broken
Pieces from this crushed
Heart, like a million shards
Of shattered crystal, I found
Myself. There, in the darkness,
I found something that was me.
As I watched myself grow, from
What seemed like a newly born
Babe, I sat in awe. This path
I’ve wandered for so long, twisting
And turning, those long uphill
Climbs, I pulled myself back together
Once more. Heart on the mend, as
Much as it can, wearing a new shield
To stave off the angry words and
Broken dreams I let fall to the floor
On so many occasion before. Then,
Fate played her hand once more. The
Cards she’s dealt, I tried not to see!
Yet, curiosity got the better of me. So,
I took a chance and peered at the cards,
Part of me hoping it was just some sort
Of wicked trickery, yet that part did die
A swift death as they showed something
To my eyes. Change, Temperance,
The World and so many more. Once, I
Thought I’d found my soul mate, only
To find out it was some trick of the mind,
And of the heart that pounds so frantically
Within my chest. Then, as Fate would have
It, that all came crumbling down before my
Very eyes. I thought, never again, shall these
Befall me again! Never will I think of such
Outrageous things again! Yet, these cards,
The ones that Fate hath given me now, they
Burn with realization and Temperance hath
Granted me the strength in which to have
Patience. This is when the light shown through
The darkened curtains I’d pulled around
My soul. And now, as I sit here, in the light,
I am bewildered to how a soul can shine so
Very bright when one hath thought that light
Had been extinguished by cruel hands that
Grip so very tight, choking the life right out
Of me. The lesson of don’t give of one’s heart
So fast, treat it like a box of chocolates, delving
In one by one, in moderation. Do not eat
The chocolates in a hurry, savour each
Morsel as if it were the last piece in the box.
Enjoy the sensations that flood the taste buds.
Love is much like this, a box of chocolates,
Smooth and rich, yet occasionally bitter from
Semi sweetness. One cannot gorge on this
Candy, the one called Love. It must be taken
In moderation to savour the sweetness that
Abounds within the hard outer casing. Mint
Meltaways that excite the senses, this is what
Love is. And never, ever eat the last piece, for
Then the box shall be empty.

The way you've extended this metaphor! I'll never look at a box of chocolates the same way again! For me it would have to be a cheeseburger. But I always eat the last bite. I guess thats the fatalist in me.
