The Man, Caught in the Middle
© 2006
Dan Johnson

This was the story of my life until I decided it didn’t look good on me.

Here I sit working out this riddle
All around me people sneer and giggle
Because…
I’m known as the man in the middle.

I’ve never taken a risk one way or the other
Didn’t think my voice would really matter,
So I kept a low key…no one bothered me,
I was a visible ghost,
A distant but vagrant memory,

I’m caught in the middle no where can I go
The left is too liberal, the right is too radical
The center is safe, I can lean either direction,
But I committed moral defection!

I stood up, took my stand,
No longer a passionless voice,
Like Nero playing my fiddle,
It cost me…that’s my choice,
At least, I’m no longer,
The man, caught in the middle.

A noble tale of taking a stand Dan.......I admire the courage and integrity to stand firm for what you believe in.

Peace,

It is this kind of story, The Man Caught in the Middle, that is a powerful kind of bravery, this voice, and patience that forever carries pebbles of hope upstream, Dan...if a legitimately starving man isn't too proud to ask for sugar or a fishook, he will eventually come upon a prize roast duck...glad you got yours...be well...Blessed Be.

there is no dis-service in either direction, nor the middle...it is who you choose to be that is important...i love the opening lines..."until I decided it didn't look good on me" (now that is where the truth lives)

Been the one caught in the middle myself.....but I must say I still struggle to go either way.....life is just oo complicated for some.....so we die a little each day suffocating slowly but surely!!

Good to know you made it!!

Dan,
You MUST be a Leo!! You have described me to a "t" when I was embarrassed to raise my hand. I "knew" the answer to the question, but still could not raise my hand because everyone else was right and I would be "wrong." Upon hearing another give the answer, I mentally slapped myself for not speaking 'cause I "really" did know the answer. Excellent write!

Thanks,
George

I stood up, took my stand,
No longer a passionless voice

Bravo! And if we could only each do the same, we might even be able to change this nasty old world for the better.

... and it's never too late to quit that oh-so unsatisfying no-man's land of the middle ground which so many of us choose to make our birthright and our legacy... I am discovering that even 50 years and 28 days is as good a time as any! :)) LOVE your by-line in your Biog, Dan, and a pleasure to meet you and applaud you picking up this pen! Thank you, Kate x

Taking a stand can cost you friends(sic) or you may gain others but at least you have been heard.
