My mind was a jumbled mess, my eyes blurred to blindness and I couldn't remember the lines to the gem I was writing, so this little ditty is a note to myself.

I’ll get back to you later!
2007
Dan Johnson

I’ve got it on my mind,
The mind of a silly old poetic creator…
But then the words which were there
A simple thought or two ago
Fade to open spaces between
My ears, my eyes blurry from
Staring at a screen; a mistress
So cold and mean demanding
More…you wicked, word purveyor
And dysfunctional dictator,
I PROTEST!
And guess what,
I’ll just have to get back to you later.

Dan,
LOL...We have all been there. One time it took me two hours to remember the name of the town that Texas Stadium is in, Irving....and it bugged the hell out of me. Talk about block!

LOL Excellent rant on the ways of memory, Dan! Once, a while back, I too felt rather exacerbated by the shortcoming of the mind (and still do!), and so I scrawled down a little ditty that went something like this:

The other day I stood, befuddled
while airy thoughts swarmed, huddled
converged upon my mnemonic net
then slipping through, unheeding yet
like a bucket with water brimming
full of turgid memories swimming
And with each added memory drop
several others from the bucket plop

It was a little different (memory, again, has failed me, hehe).

cheers,
Wm.

Going blank - don't you just hate it? and, it's not just with poetry, it getting off the chair and realize you're clueless about what you were going to do. I like your solution -- 'I'll just have to get back to you later.' Makes it sound important and not that you've forgotten.

You're a good word purveyor,
Kathy

Good subject, and I always swear I'm going to use that little digital voice recorder thing I bought last year that I never even took out of the plastic, but then I like to write. I too have a love-hate relationship with Computer SCREENS!

I come up with awesome stuff while in the shower but it seems to soak up into the towel because I can not remember a dang thing afterwards. I usually put my muse on a time after after that. Great piece Dan, I feel your pain!
