My needs are few,
Roof over my head,
Food in my belly
to keep me fed
And gas in my car,
Truth is…I
ain’t going far,
(at these prices, who can?)

I went to the grocery to see what I use
to be able to afford,
A trip down aisle 3 interrupted, to the check-out lane,
by the clerk-asking if, I wanted “paper or plastic?”
Pulled out my canvass bag and said
“load’em up” …all three items.
I bought a power ball ticket, (I put the ticket in my lucky pocket…)
a loaf of bread,
discounted meat,
and pork and beans

Paid $3.69 a gallon just today,
Price is going up tomorrow,
more I surely don’t want to pay.
I know others pay much more for petrol, true ,
nevertheless, others aren’t I, and I’m not you.
Times are getting mean,
trimming back as far as I can,
All I need is affordable gasoline…
At today’s rate for me to putt-putt along
my best bet would be another can of pork and beans.

Ain’t life a gas?
