The Master Gardner-Tanka
© 2008
Dan Johnson

in deep restful sleep
a dream I had pardon me
i said secrets shared
that night promises made to keep
secrets to grow a garden.

trowel shovel hoe
gloves all the tools I would need
plot the spot right here
pull weeds till soil make rows where
seeds go water cycle starts

weeds cleared earth is turned
seeds planted watered sheltered
from pain of love loss
watched some died from too much sun
this garden I learned my life

It's a form I don't know, but I love "Gardener themes" having been one most of my life. And I was thinking one of the great things about your poetry is it always says what it sets out to and yet is never overlong. That's a feat to accomplish that's not easy. I'm off long poems lately.

Making a garden flourish is harder than most realize.
You can work fast, and still have a lovely garden.
But not if you only work half-fast.

Well done,

All that garden needs is the rain of a good cry, it will cleanse the soul of the gardener and give that precious drop of life to the seeds.
