Slipping, Dipping, Staying

“Excuse me,” I asked,
“Do you have time to slip through life with me?”
You blushed, your cheeks a sweet redness and said,
“I’ll slip with you,
I’ll dip with you, and yes,
I’ll stay forever with you.”
Forty years later as we lay on damp soiled sheets, you said,
“Remember when we couldn’t rub two nickels together,
To pay the rent?”
“Yeah, I said,
“But we had each other?”
“Yes” I quietly remembered …
“I remember all the ups and downs,
I remember the smiles, sometimes the frowns,
I remember we drove from Portland to San Francisco
Just to hear Jimmy Buffet sing, Margaretville.”
When we got back my boss said
“You can spend all the time you want with
Whomever you want
And Jimmy Buffet to, so…good-bye.”
Now, so many years later what I really want to say is…
Thanks for
Sweetly slipping,
Buoyantly dipping and
Staying forever, with me.
May Love's Bounty Always Embrace, Slip & Dip
Forever with you both!
