It has been seven years since I originally posted this poem, enjoy!

If you have ever had a bad day, you may understand what I am saying here. dlj

72 Words-Revised

Dan Johnson
© February, 2011

What would it be like?
Without these voices inside my head
I try in vain to sleep
Between the sheets of depression
I call my bed
~~
If I asked nicely,
Would you leave?
Would you pack your bag of tricks?
And finally let me breathe
Well, would you?
~~
My mind sits idled at the intersection of
Push and pull
While cacophonous sounds of horns and shrilling cries
Leave me…
empty

I hear you loud and clear-as I think you said in your profile about writing-picking up the pen is just as tough sometimes as trying to explain to others why I write the way I do--I like to try and write different forms of expression in Poetry--not always accepted-well the spiritual ones don't seem to be-but what I find interesting is that the way Poetry seems to -how shall I say this...sneak up on me without warning and sometimes for me anyway I will have simply an image or a sentence and before I am done I will have a poem that others go " Whoa.." and I think well if you could have seen the process and the way my mental gymnastics went through to get to that Whoa...LOL--well done

feeling like a push-me-pull-you is a constant in my days at times, Dan, and I usually have not a clue who will win... but my the relief that comes when one of them does - EITHER of them; then the wheels can start turning again and some compass bearing or sense of direction ensue. Here's to 73 and 74: AT LAST! :)) xx

I am sure many will relate to what you express through your verses here, Dan; sadly, this is a "fixture" of the human condition it seems. Love, peace, and best wishes,

Yup. Been there. Done that. And every time it happens it is worst than the last one. Or so it seems. Until the voices decide to cut me some slack, which is what I'm hoping for you.

A thought provoking gem. Dan if you are taking therapy for depression make sure of competence of the advisor. Some of them use toilet paper as diplomas.
