Waiting for The Next Train to Crazyville

I've been working on this since August...so first, Crazyville is a state of mind; like man this music is really crazy. In fact the words were inspired by Dave Brubeck's "Take Five."

Just waiin’ for the next train to Crazyville
Dan Johnson
© August, 2012

(slow and bluesy)
I’m just sittin’ by the railroad tracks
trains are coming and going the live long day…but
None seem to be going my way…no, none seem to be going my way
choo choo choo, choody choo choo choo.

Where am I going…what’s my next big thrill,
I’m heading somewhere, anywhere, I don’t care,
Just want to get the hell outta here…
Conductor cries out “All aboard”
Three toots of the whistle and one … I don’t give a hoot
Choo choo choo, choody choo choo

Life is fine, in fact quite sublime now that I’m on the train to crazyville,
Don’t you want to go with me?...won’t you want to go with me?
We’ll slide on down the tracks to that place called crazyville...
and never come back, and never ever come back.
choo choo choo, choody choo choo choo. (Repeat twice)

got no worries…got no fears…
all I know is I’ve got to get out of here
this trains blowing off a lot of steam
struggling to climb the next hill…
choo choo choo, choody choo choo choo

there it is I can see it now
just ahead this old train’s starting to slow,
I’ll be so happy…I know I will,
I’m almost home, up ahead she patiently awaits…the conductor calls out
“Everyone off…this stop”is crazyville”
Choo choo choo, choody choo choo choo (Repeat twice, fade music.)

Living in Crazyville is much better than living in Dullsville! Without my particular brand of madness, I couldn't write two lines.

Dan, "Crazyville" is the part time residence of many of us, me included - "Oh Lord, stuck in old Lodi again" by CCR and "Sittin down town in a railway station waiting for the train sweet Mary to carry me home again, one toke over the line", by whomever I don't remember - your song has an escape that both of those lacked - play it again Dan, I will listen - I wish you love and peace my dear friend - Jon Michael

I love the abandon to this journey, Dan, and its easy rhythms. Reminded me a little of Otis Reading and Dock Of The Bay to start, but the resolution with the arrival at the end drove the poem towards its purpose - even if that "I know I will" in the final stanza sounded a little understandably ambivalent. I wonder what you'll find there?! :)) xx
