To borrow a phrase
That's humorous yet;
Life is like a
Box of chocolate.

More often than not
It isn't a treat.
We open the heart-box
To find it bittersweet.

It's a beautiful box
Wrapped with a golden bow.
It promises sweet things
But it isn't always so.

The candy inside
Comes in different shapes
The bitter filling in some
Reminds me of sour grapes.

I'm happy to say
That the box shared with you
Had some bitter bites and
Very sweet pieces, too.

I enjoyed sharing my life
And love with you dear,
But that box is now empty,
And a new box is near.

This new box I have
I will share as a friend,
For that I shall be
'Til the bittersweet end.
