Promise me no days in spring
no flowered meadows where birds sing
Promise me no midnight walks
no autumn frost or endless talks

Promise me no roses red
no jeweled crowns upon my head
Promise me no ocean shores
no mystical forgotten lore

Promise me no time to spend
no afternoons of passions lend
Promise me no summer rains
no evenings lost on lovers trains

Promise me no love unbound
no companion eternal found
Promise me no tender kiss
that I may one day come to miss

Promise me no "come what may"
no promise of another day
Make no promises to me
and disappointed I shan't be

I really love this simply because it shows the disappointment in those who disappoint us.

... so lyrical; a wonderful poem. may i share my own version of this theme?

No Promises

Woo me not with promised days of splendor,
And tell me no sweet tales of things to come.
Let there be nothing asked, save surrender,
Just touch me for this moment, just this one.

Give me all, hold nothing for tomorrow,
For only angels know what time will bring.
Ecstasies may turn to hurt and sorrow,
I care not, for your touch will soothe the sting.

Love, hold me now, more I dare not promise;
There's nothing sure save this one sweet embrace.
Time may take the memory of it from us,
As lightning leaves the sky without a trace.

Such white heat cools, as comes the sun to rise.
Forgotten, save the glimmer in my eyes.
