When Doves Cry

You entered my garden, finding me perched on the limb of a tree,
We stared at each other, then you said," Come to me".
My natural instinct is to fear man,
But your gentleness assured kindness and no evil plan.
You said," Little Dove, I will never hurt you and soon you will agree",
" Set your fear aside and let your trust fly free".
You smiled and held out your hand,
I fluttered around you and soon did land.
You spoke softly and held me near,
I began to relax and felt no fear.
Each day you fed me breadcrumbs from your hand,
You had tamed me, making me fear no man.
You said, " I will teach you how to love",
" And I will never hurt you, Little Dove".
Your smiling lips, told me pretty lies,
Your mask of love was a cruel disguise.
To tame the dove was your aim,
Just for your sport, you played this evil game.
You soon tired of it all and said good-bye,
Cutting off my wings, rendering me unable to fly.
Now I utter silent screams that are heard as a sigh,
That is the sound made when doves cry.

WOW! SC, This poem was written beautifully and with such an easy gentle flow!
A startling ending to a warm and loving beginning!
Betrayal is just like this, I've been there!
PRINCE, When doves Cry, I heard no music, but love this song!
I hope this was not meant from anyone in your life or around you! If so, hope this heals strongly!

Oh, how terribly sad. Just when you think you trust someone, they hurt you. Beautiful.

This one breaks my heart SC as we too often place our trust in the hands of betrayal. Thank you for sharing.

I am stunned by this one SC it starts out so beautifully with hope and love and then is only shattered towards the end with cruelty...so much like real life and love. Very well done and one of your absoulute bests

Doves shouldn't cry or fall in love with hawks.
