He rubbed his eyes in wonderment, he has spied a Snow Angel at play,
He dared not approach her, for fear she'd fly away.
She romped, pranced and danced, with the abandonment of a child,
His eyes drank in her every move, watching all the while.
She saw the lonely mortal and bid him to come near,
She hugged and assured him that he had nothing to fear.
His day spent with her was a slice of heaven, joy untold,
He took no notice of the frigid air, for she warmed his very soul.
His life was so empty, but she filled every space,
He fell in love with her angelic face.
The day disappeared, night came bringing a starry sky,
This was the Angel's signal, to spread her wings and fly.
He sensed that she was leaving and tearfully whispered good-bye,
His tears fascinated her, for she had never seem anyone cry.
She took one of the tears and it glistened in the moonlight,
It formed an ice crystal, in the cold wintry night.
She suddenly felt the pain, that had evoked the tear,
The Little Angel shuddered and her eyes reflected fear.
He realized that this beautiful creature was made to be free,
A union and love was never meant to be.
So with a heavy heart, he encouraged her to take flight,
He embraced her, she soared away and he sadly watched her fade from sight.
