This is a poem based on the story of my former counselor, Michael DiBennedito in Columbia,Missouri 65203. He has probably moved since I have seen him. It has been quite a few years. I am JUST NOW able to talk openly about EVERYTHING that was AFFECTING me BACK THEN, from 1988-1994. The fact that I am a homosexual is a big part of my life too that I have kept secret. I have only written one poem so far and displayed it here on the Gay/Lesbian/Bisexual page. I am a BISEXUAL.
This poem is the beginning of my story, how Michael saw through me and reached a hand to me, and lifted me up.
You saw right through
Me, and have seen more
Than sadness, you have
Seen crying and lonliness.
I was on the verge of suicide,
The greatest pain known to
Man.
Through my rage and madness,
You found a weeping child,
That was scared, tired, lonely, Desperate, and wanting love!
Thus, you reached out your hand,
And you gave ME a NEW beginning!
A reason for living!

Wow! The world has many a hero and this is a fine tribute to your hero. This poem explores your turmoil of dealing with the world's views of who you are and your views of who you are. Shakespeare says: "To thine own self be true." And you convey that well here. Also a wise woman once said: If you don't love yourself no one else will." Deep and emotional write.
I remember reading a quote somewhere saying "it is better to be hated for who you are, than to be loved for who you are not." best wishes and let your poetry soar

Great expressions and ending with hope. What more can anyone ask for.

I applaud your courage to share such deep feelings and to come forward to be yourself. My favorite quote came from a fortune cookie that said "Be yourself so that others may know the real you". I don't think we are real until we can be ourselves. I am glad he was there to help you and that you penned such a wonderful tribute.
Poetry is the outlet that we all use to express our inner most thoughts. Your poem exemplified that and it reaches across all boundaries that define us as human. Nice write.
