Her(best friend)

This poem is about my Mom's best friend who just recently died on October 28th, 2003 from a cancerous brain tumor. I offered my services to Mom to help and to Wendy but to no avail. I believe I was an inspiration to her though for she has seen me grow up from a teenager to young adult to adult and survive all of my surgeries. My Grandmother, who passed away in June of 2003, just told me so that she appreciated my words of comfort to her by card that one day and that I had been a source of comfort and strength. Nice to know, whether it is true or not I am not sure, but I think I have been a source of comfort to some.

In the beginning, there was your friends, HER and him.
They could do no wrong.
They suddenly moved away from the area and you cried,
then you went to visit them, over the weekends.
You would leave me alone with the dogs,
Buddy, the lab, and my dog, Foxxy, the Shiba-Inu.
Buddy was fine until about 4 weeks ago.
He is starting to scare me whenever I feed him.
I do not like the job.
Yet,you still go and see them every one to two
weekends a month. Then, SHE gets ill.
Your best friend.
The Doctors thought it was a stroke.
Now,it is a brain tumor!
I have been through that before and I can help!
I am strong!
Yet, you do not let me near HER.
I am jealous for all YOUR time is spent calling HER,
morning and evening, every day!
What the Hell are you going to do?
Take up residence with her in the other part of the state?
She needs your comfort Mom,
but she does not need you.
She needs her husband and her children right now.
Take it from someone who was dying for eight
and a half years before MY tumor was taken out!
But, alas, you will have to learn on your OWN and I
cannot be your eyes and ears or thoughts.
I hope you realize you are throwing away your college education of Law school,
as you are suppossed to graduate on December 12th, 2003.
I am worried about you,Mom.
I always take care of you,
that has been the way for about 10 years now
before the tumor came.
I still want to do that.
Help me realize that YOU HAVE GROWN UP
and I shall GROW UP ALSO!

I felt the jealousy and anger here. I hope this has helped you sort through those feelings and brought you peace.

This is so sad, Becca. If only others would learn from the past, it would be so much easier. It seems you have enough wisdom to see what others do. Well written piece.
