The first time I saw you, you were just three days old
black, wooly and playing around rough and bold
you nudged momma Veri to get more milk
I petted your neck, you were as soft as finest silk

You grew into a magnificent mare
out in pasture you stood and people stopped to stare
they commented on your beauty and praised your prime
I was so proud to have called you mine.

We went to the horseshows, to the lake, on the trail
your mane just a flowing and long was your tail
with thundering hooves you galloped through the fields
and with feathery steps you performed half pass and leg yields

I could go on for hours and praise your disposition
could rhyme many verses about you with ambition
but your life ended short and I have to face
that you’re gone from this earth to move to a better place

A place with knee high grass, so lush and so green
with slow flowing streams so cool and so clean
to run with your friends who have gone before you
and saved you a place in God's early morning’s dew

I’m left behind knowing that you are okay
without any pain, without any dismay
for you are meant to be one of the Lord's heavenly privy
but I darn sure will miss you – my horse, my pride, my Ivey.
