Busy lives and filled calendars
an overflowing schedule book
office meetings, family visits
no speed limit on that road you took.
Children raised by day care nannies
produced by parents on the run
scared to miss out on a promotion
you’d rather die than be outdone.
Power lunch down to the minute
got to catch the faster train
hustle through another day
no time to think if it’s lived in vain.
If you would stop just for a moment
you’d see the sky’s never been this blue
nature breathes, God shines upon you
there are still marvels, but you have no clue.
Time commitments numb your spirit
there’s never room for an empty thought
those suffocating obligations
wash away the lost battle you fought.
On few days longing overpowers
and lust becomes the center stage
mindless sex instead of loving
you forced yourself into that cage.
Amongst your breed you feel secure
but grasping hands are affectionless
when dusk prevails your heart still yearns
and you can’t deny your loneliness.

today's, "plastic people society". There is a theory, in a course I once took regarding managing interpersonal relationships. It states, "who you are, is where you were when". It deals with value programming and explores the impact our early, before age eight, environment has upon what we turn out to be. Another great, make me think poem. I love them. Jon Michael Willey

Your poem speaks a sad truth in our society today. We have gotten far too busy to stop and enjoy life. Years pass before we realize; children grow and we never see how time has gone. I don't know if it is a problem in society or a struggle to stay afloat, but loneliness does hit, more times than not, for so many people.
This is a wisdom-filled poem, well suited for our culture, today. Loved the rhyme scheme, too.
Happy Leap Day!!!

Oh! To long for the good life. It's a jungle out there and most of us contribute to it's state of madness whether we want to admit it or not. Peace, Love and Blessings Always, Paul.

This is such a real line for so many lost hearts out there, whether it is through choice or circumstance we all must decide where are priorities must be. Becca this is a beautiful piece that echoes what so many people often do not realize until stretched out on in a hospital or a morgue.

I take my time, of course I'm self employed
which can make a difference, but I know some
other self employed people who are killing themselevs
to make $$ more, more, more.
It's not worth it to me.
Excellent write Rebecca...
Love and peace,
