Melancholy No More
By Kathy Armijo

Melancholy used to be my name.
Day after day, it was all the same.
Sad, unhappy, just singing the blues.
No toe tapping from my shoes.

What brought about this change of name?
Was it an adjustment of my attitude?
Did I take some drug to alter my mood?
Could it be that I finally digested God’s food?

All my life I’ve known He’s there for me.
Still, often times, Him, I didn’t see.
For in my sadness I’d despair.
Where is my God?  Where?

Has he gone on vacation?
Is He lost in action?
Is His phone off the hook?
He isn’t even listed in the phone book.

Try as I might,
I just couldn’t find His light.
I’d pray throughout the day and night.
My life was a terrible plight.

Then one day from out of the blue
I realized
That He’d carried me through
And given me ever so many replies.

I’d been so caught up in my demise.
In my sadness
I hadn’t seen His wondrousness.
Finally, I realized.

In my grief and struggles throughout my life
He’s always been my guiding light.
How could I have been so dim?
HIS love for me is not a whim.

Thankfully, in all I do and say,
He gives me much leeway.
Lovingly, I give thanks to Him,
Remembering that HIS love for me is not a whim.
It will sustain me through thick and thin.

Kathy is my name,
Melancholy is my shame.

Blimey if I looked in the shaving mirror and saw such a reflection..
The word melanchony don't come to mind..lol

The close one get to God, the more they see life anew, and feel
at one with nature and so on in ways that just can't be explained...

That said, some of my fav writes have come from melanchonic moods.
being human we are meant to have laughter, tears, anger, love, else we are like robots...

For each day that we awake, we should feel His love, for it is a special blessing just for us. Not everything goes the way we want it to, but it all follows His plan so we should rejoice in his love and know that he is with us always. Nice poem, I am glad that you finally accepted that the light in your world comes from Him.
Take care,
Sherry

A wonderful thoughtful inspirational poem. Yes, he is always there, but it's like opening doors sometimes, we just don't know which one to take that he will be behind.

How could I have been so dim?
HIS love for me is not a whim.

I've been there too, doubting God
but He always proves to be the Faithful God that He is.

This poem is a blessing to read.
Thanks for sharing. God bless you.

Kathy may certainly be your name but melancholy need never be a shame. We cannot but help these kinds of moods and humours besetting us at the best of times; it's part of the cycle of being. But often it is a physical and clinical cause that will bring even the most robust psyche low. God knows these things. He never wants us to feel shame for what is totally understable. Great and uplifting poetry which is a testament to both faith and resiliance. And yes... revelation is everything in terms of receiving what God intends us to know about His glorious work in our lives. One minute it is hidden from us... the next minute revealed. No two persons' experience of even the same scriptures is the same. Our revelation will be as totally unique in terms of the ways in which it impacts us as our own circumstances. So glad that now you have felt the truth of these things you will be sustained through thick and thin. A good place to be! Thank you, Kate xx

Oh, this one hurts because we've been there, wondering where God was in the midst our world crashing down around us, only to discover He was there all the time. All we needed to do was look UP. :) Beautiful, Kathy, well done.

Kathy, God seems to know that we hurt so much sometime, that he is quiet and holds us, though we don't realize he is there. There is no shame in melancholy. God will see all of us through. Blessings to you, my friend. I also give thanks that God sent me here to all of you. He knows and loves.
Beautifully penned feelings!
Love you much,
Annie

great! a trite saying is, "when God seems to have left you --- who moved?" I personally believe God presence is amplified as you go out to serve others in His name.
