Nighttime Prayer

 As I lay down to sleep
It’s on You my
Thoughts I wish to keep.

As I try to pray
My thoughts race on about my day
And, what I gotta’ do tomorrow.
I’m getting frustrated
Cause I can’t stay focused on You.

You seem to say,
“It’s ok.  Continue to pray.”
So, I try again.
Woops, tomorrow’s garbage day.

Finally, I give up on praying
And talk to You about my day
And what I gotta’ do tomorrow.
Your reply,
“You’ve done your best,
Now get some rest.”

I reply,
“Goodnight, God,
See you tomorrow.
Watch over my family and me.
Take care of us.
Help us to do Your will.”

He gently replies,
“See you can pray.
Goodnight my child.”
