Expectations
By Kathy Armijo

Family celebrations … joyous
Filled with storytelling … laughter
Camaraderie ... togetherness.
Ideologies of a broken heart?

What has become of each of us?
Are we so afraid to reach out?
Are we so afraid that we might get hurt?
Are we so afraid to show compassion?

Today, was supposed to be a celebration …
The first day of the rest of our wondrous lives.
Yet, it fell short of what I was hoping for.
Are MY expectations to high?

Perhaps I’m the one who needs an attitude adjustment.

Regardless of where the fault lies,
It is up to me to fine-tune my outlook.
To wish for others to be compassionate and understanding
Will always leave me feeling adrift.

I am in charge of my feelings.
No one can make me feel unsettled, unless I permit it.
No one can make me happy, except me.
No one can alter my life’s journey, except me.

It is up to me to remember that …
… I am blest.
… I am beautiful in God’s eye.
… I am not alone.

I am one of God’s unique gifts.
This wondrous birthright should not be taken lightly.
It is beautiful –
All that God has given me.

This is a blessing of a reminder to us that we are in control in many more ways than we realize on a daily basis. We tend to forget that everything we do is actually a choice made, including feeling good or bad, and in the end, we are all indeed, children of God. A wonderous gift.

be well and happy,
Kathy

Kathy this is absolutely beautiful and you bring out so many inner questions that many ask. We are all God's gift to humanity and therfore should always be reaching out to each other and assisting those in need.....

Be always safe,
Karen

So true Kathy, we have the only say over our lives everyday to how it will go unless God has other plans. Thank you for sharing.

It is not only a pleasure to read this poem, it is as well a pleasure to count you among my dearest friends.
Because you are "...compassionate and undertanding..." as you write.

We are blessed my friend...sometimes I think that many take their birth rights too lightly...imagine this is one thing that no one can take away. We may lose a job, car, or even our home...but this peace in our heart, our eternal home in heaven, our precious Lord our friend will always be by our side, always have an open ear to hear our cries...for He is our father, savour, friend, the alpha and the omega...He is God! I am glad to be one His children, don't know what I would do without Him....great write full of inspiration!
Blessings,
Joyce B.

Dear Kathy, One should not expect anything from others. We should leave it to grace. Love will fulfill you and will show you the meaning of our life on earth and beyond. Don't let any doubt ever enter your heart. You are never alone. Love Emile

Introspection is a necessary auditing tool to assess where we are. Our expectations can only be met when we openly share them with those we have expectations of. They must be willing participants and goal knowledgeable. This wondrous birthright, "must not", be taken lightly. These are savy analyisis from a pretty smart lady. Excellent poetry. It stimulates my thought. Makes me want to reassess my credo. Jon Michael Wiley

In our perceived strifes of life, we often fail to see that our struggle and our lacking is really about ourselves, not others. "Expections" presents powerful truths that, indeed, "should not be taken lightly." One truth to remember is that we are never alone!

A very timely reminder, Kathy.

When we look inside ourselves and count our blessings, what others may say or think of us seems so much less important...
