Eight months ago

I wrote my very, very first poem, for a friend

My expectations were none

Yet, I began writing poetry for fun

Writing took off like a rocket ship

The words that had been rumbling, tumbling

Around in my head and heart, for nigh on sixty years

Finally saw the light of day

I felt like Frankenstein

I gave my words life

Never, in my wildest dreams did I think

Anyone would be interested in what I wrote

What I’m trying to say
