*there are hearts in my room*

i see you there in my room
just looking around at things
noticing i have a lot of hearts
a variety of wood and marble,
pewter and silver, crystal,
some paper and one wicker
each is different in the memory it holds
memories of beautiful feelings

you hand me a gift a heart of your own
this one is made of stone, septarian
you say it's a fossil as old as love
sunshine yellow with snakeskin pattern
i notice a hollow in the center
bordered with crystalline edges and
that's what makes it special, a place to fill
whether tears or smiles, it is no matter
and simply says i understand

hearts are a bond
of the mind and the soul
beating to rhythms ethereal
they grace my room in variety of forms
gently they remind me we love
