Darkness surrounded me
It drove the light away
The night it did devour me
chased away the day

No stars, no moon
not even a firefly
to add a light
to the darkened sky

Just the deafening silence
that came with the dark
it was all was around me
like a cloak so dank and dark

But then I heard my name
a whisper in my ear
His arms were around me
pulling me near
and the power of His love
became an all consuming light
that filled me with such peace
even in this darkest night


Now the darkness holds no power
and no forces can invade
For He is my sanctuary
He is my hiding place
He is my high tower
My Bright and Morning Star
His light shines within me
to chase away the dark
