Aging

 By Robert T. Wood

 Copyright © 2015 by Robert T. Wood

As the years quickly go by

Distressed that her clothes no longer fit

Dresses that bring back memories of our younger years

As she sets them aside I fight back tears

Dresses she wore for so many years

Still bright and clean as they were back then

I don’t want to see them go

Although she’ll never wear them again, I know

Our children have since grown and have children of their own

I reminisce her holding our babies in those clothes

In my mind there has been no change

To me she looks the same as four decades ago

My beautiful wife moves slower now

Daily aches and pains as we grow old

Doesn’t matter as I move slower too

To me she looks the same as four decades ago

When we first met,
my wife knocked off my socks.
Now all these years later,
She's become my silver haired fox.

Everything changes but a true love, expressed in this poem, continues on until death separates lovers. But you have a lifetime of memories to draw from as everything else changed around you as you age.
