...a villanelle*

My thoughts, how they forsake me
as a child lost in its play
No more shall I wander, no more shall I be free.

The days flit by as a bumble bee
I no longer can be gay
My thoughts, how they forsake me

Would that I did with thee flee
so my heart would not be clay
No more shall I wander, no more shall I be free.

I no longer pray on bended knee
I feel evil lurks through my day
My thoughts, how they forsake me

I am as stagnant as can be
would that I could be shown the way
No more shall I wander, no more shall I be free.

O! Happiness how you seem to flee
since this true love has gone away
My thoughts, how they forsake me
no more shall I wander, no more shall I be free.

Do not dispare, dear Lady Jackie, we will all at some point face this thing so delicately labeled "a senior moment". This mortal body was not built to last, but as we know, there will come a time, not far hence now, when we will have new, spiritual bodies with no possibility of defects. For now, I must say you have presented us with a beautiful poem on ageing. Thank you!
God Bless
Lena

It is one thing to write good poetry or prose, but it is another to write good poetry when confined to a form. You have accomplished both.
