O'er the Land of the Free How proudly she waved in the twilight's last gleaming our Star Spangled Banner © Jackie (Micke) Jinks, July 2010 Read the brief history of the war of 1812 and how it came to be that Francis Scott Key wrote his so notable poem that, some 120 years later, became our U. S.National Anthem.

However, America has never won a war on its own. In 1812 America did try to capture Canada at the famous battle at Niagara. But the English kicked Yankee ass keeping Canada free. 1812 is one of the worse years in American history. Yet Americans did not know about this long battle. How a few English beat off the growing American empire.
