Black Ship

Some will say that there are none
who has seen the black ship sail
Who has seen the coal black eyes of her captian
and lived to tell the tale

There are those who say that there is an exeption
to every single rule
because I have seen the captian
and the black ship so very cruel

So come now and listen close
those of you who follow the storm
and I will tell you of the cruel black ship
and the crew of the Silver Morn

I was then a man of God
traveling from London town
Going to the colinies there
owned by Church and Crown

It was upon the second day
among murderers and thieves in the crew
when I saw its blood dipped sails
as the black ship came to view

Upon a thousand wormwood oars
and three tattered bloody sails
it drew ever closer then
and its wake created storm gales

Its masthead was the face of death
smiling its skeletal grin
as if in amusement of the Silver Morn
and all who were within

The Captian stood at the helm
of his rotting ship of black
His crew of tourtured souls
stood silent at his back

For a moment all stood still
as the black ship prepared to board
and all were gripped by unnamed fear
and could not utter a word

The Captian of that coal black ship
called for his first mate
who began to call the crew of the Silver Morn
by name to meet their fate

Many of the sailors smiled
and a few even tipped their hats
and greeted the crew like companions
upon that ship of black

Knowing that straight to Hell
went the black ship and its crew
Yet the crew of the Silver Morn
didn't care, if they knew

Fearing with every name
called on that accursed roll
Wondering if I was next
and praying for my soul

When the crew was called up
and I was left for last
The Captian stood in front of me
and laughed his evil laugh

"Your name is not on this list,
but you are not without sin.
So a different punishment you await."
he said with an evil grin

"You may try to warn them
to live an honest life.
To stay away from the sinning,
and to take a honest wife."

"But you will still wonder
with every ship you see,
How many can you save
before they meet with me?"

And with a laugh that chilled my soul
and froze me to the bone
The captian of that cursed black ship
left me all alone

Much later I was found on the Silver Morn
drifting in the sea
and it seems that to all I tell seem not to
listen to me

And yet still I shed a tear when a ship is
not coming back
as I wonder if their doomed souls
are under the blood soaked sails of that accursed ship of black

In the End: Apocalyptic Poetry by Debra Kraft

In the end they'll all be dancin'--all them ones that didn't die.... Dance with me in the shadows amidst the lightning and the thunder, and all that nu-cu-lar debris. See the big bang from the other side, and then open that cellar door. Go down into
