Be critical-- Please! That's what I need. I'm serious. Critique me with cynical intent so that my poetry may grow and build, feasting on rejection and faultiness pointed out with good intent. Tell me what I did wrong; Tell me what I did right, But, please people, don't just flatter me!
As a writer, I welcome other author's critiques - and I don't remove comments. A criticism from another need not be rude... I've always seen it done with courtesy.
Just a thought:
If you want to grow in your writing, stretch yourself. Write about various topics - things that matter to your heart, things that affect your daily life, things that affect other people you interact with, nature, animals... anything! everything! But, for me, I've found that the key is in practice, practice, practice!
Another thought? Write a poem (or whatever) in whatever words simply come to your mind. When you've got those thoughts down, go to a Thesaurus and look up other words with the same meaning. (And if you're writing a rhyming poem, your whole poem will change!) Stretching your vocabulary will force you to write better and have other concepts of things (can also force you to think deeper thoughts).
I'll be watching you. ;-)
(and you can keep my comment or delete it... as you wish - I'll take no offense.)
That's what critiquing is, isn't it, Jay! The other day I read a very honest critique about someone's writing. It did not take away from, nor did it attack the author. It was very critiquing and I would like to see that more, too. Thank you, J, for saying so....
