There are secrets that haunt
in the back of her mind,
circling like falcons in the vast desert sky.
So oblivious is he
to the thoughts
that churn
behind her eyes.

A silent tear whispers through her soul
for reasons only she could know…
reasons she can’t share.
Swirling like the shifting sand in
unnoticed patterns and textures are the dreams
that burn beneath her skin.
Etchings in her memories
Cast long shadows at her feet,
as the echoes of time wasted resonate through valley walls.

While in the distance
castles rise
while stifled hopes begin to breathe.
No shimmer-waver
of mirage to tease her heart.
She sees him smile
as he approaches…
Cool water eyes that quench her longing
call to her.
Sun shifts behind
the canyon walls as night
begins to permeate.
Relief stretches out beneath the stars
that dance on velvet, until…
she forgets the reasons why
she failed to taste
his love before.

Time’s shadows finally
illuminated by the moon,
evaporate…
and as his lips
meet hers once more,
she feels the rush of waterfalls.
Saturated
by his desire…
she’s satisfied.

Love truly is an oasis in this desert of life. I like the idea of "cool water eyes" being able to quench her longing. What an image that evokes. Too bad I'm not a painter... only with words, and you've done a fabulous job with them yourself! :)

This one is well written, I thought I would come by to see what you were writing these days. I had done a few chilling short stories -- noticed that some of them have the coarse language warning to them
