One in a series of poems inspired by, of all things, Michael Jackson songs. This one follows the melody for his cover of "Smile" by Charlie Chaplin.
Life
Life, once a dismal story.
Life, next the true st glory.
Each day we live and we die.
Fail or fly...
Still we fight,
hiding scars from arrows.
Fear builds us all a gallows.
We could confide our deepest strife.
It's just that...
Pride has a way of crowing.
Sadness a way of knowing.
Ere one word's said, all the courage is dead.
Though you beg, not a word comes flying.
Hushed, yet your soul's still crying.
There's only love to quell such strife.
For love is...
Pure. It is all-forgiving.
Pure, and forever-living.
Pride has no force with her heart.
It must part...
Love is strong,
forging bright tomorrows.
Begging to calm your sorrows.
Reveal your soul and joy is rife.
Can this be life...?
With her grace there is no more crying.
Though still live angst and dying.
In love, I scorn to think of strife,
within this life.
