haunting my soul with images of trysts
blurred vision dark night’s mist, my tears
back through the years my mind races
who were they; those you gave yourself to?
my self worth crushed; my title - second best
I’ve poured my love down a black hole of deceit
bowed and kissed your feet, begged to be
the only one you love, only the others know
what mantle holds the trophies for last place?
when my soul weeps do you laugh, does your
thirst for others quench your betrayal of me
one day when eternity expires, I’ll be pain free
how many have suckled your breasts stoked
your passion’s fires felt your body rise in ecstasy
did I ever know the moments when your eyes glowed?
another atop your nude glory as you lavished them
for this lesser man some worthy woman will hold my heart
share her passions and heart with me alone and I will be
a man who savors the joys of an honest love never to be shared
when your time is done sun setting on your face, will you love me
You certainly have bared your soul in this poem of regret. In the last line, you are holding on, hoping against hope.

When I finally got married, I had given up on such ideals and found my wife most agreeable. Yet, when she left, it was no surprise, and the strength that I had developed living alone carried me through that brief ordeal.
You gave your all here, Jon. I relate somewhat. To love someone with everything you have, only to have that love rebuffed is a heartbreaking way to have to deal with life.
