I Was Going To End My Life Today!
There are many street people on the streets where I live.
Where we go and feed them, for we all love to give.
They are so appreciative of every morsel that they receive.
And they can go to bed that night with their hunger pains relieved.
But what happens tomorrow when we are not there.
There’s only so much that you can do with our nightly prayer.
Do they eat anything until the next time that we come?
Or do they go to bed hungry because there is none?
Brother Russell had this dream of taking food to the poor.
He believed that with a little food; they might begin a cure.
That they may stamp out hunger one person at a time.
By feeding these precious people standing in our line.
Brother Russell was very protective because these souls were lost.
Some were angry and dismayed at what their lives have cost.
So he watched over us carefully as we reached out to them.
Noting everyone’s movements, every now and again.
As I was dishing out the potpie I made for them that day.
A Spanish man came to me and asked for him to pray.
So I said a prayer and held this precious man’s hand.
Asking God to watch over him and help this man stand.
He couldn’t understand a lot English but he understood so well.
That I was praying to God just for him, and held him as he fell.
I bent down to lift him and he cried in my embrace.
Nothing ever touched me as when he looked into my face.
For through the tears I saw his eyes, sparkling just for me.
His smile lit his cheeks on fire as bright as bright could be.
He hugged me as he cried, “God touched my very soul.”
“I was going to end my life today, but God just made me whole.”

If everyone is as good as you are, all the homeless people will have warmth and hopes in their hearts.
It takes soooo very little to be kind to another. I hope everyone will be like you.
I often walked by the street people, and I watched them. In my mind I often envision that they have all once been little babies, being cherished and loved by their parents, then I would envisioned them being little boys, or little girls, what their lives would have been like, with the whole future ahead of them; then I often felt so bad for them afterwards. When you think back about their lives, you always wondered what had happened, why they were in that situation on the street, and thinking that they have all had dreams once, and they had all been loved once, and it breaks my heart to see them ended up on the street.
People who walked by street people should really take a second look at them. If possible, give them help, restore their faith in lives, and restore their dreams and hopes.
One of the street people I knew actually had actually restored his faith and hopes in life; and the last time I saw this person he told me he was taking a course to better himself. He looked great and was clean-shaven for a change, so he must have felt a whole lot better about himself. I think everyone should reach out and help others.
What a meaningful poem this is, and so thoughtful too!
Thank you Bonnie!!!
Sandie Angel :o)
This is such an inspiration to us all. The previous poem I read was about finding angels anywhere, well, you were this man's angel.
God Bless You,
Mary

Compassion cannot be acquired you have it or you don't.
