I’d Follow Him Anywhere

I've shared many things with you this past year, I've written many funny stories, joys of raising my children, inspiration writes and yes, some sad writes as well.

This poem is about My brother who was murdered in 1990 and the dream I had the night he died. His birthday was on the 9th of January and my thoughts went back to the night he died and a dream I had. It is the first time I was able to go back and relive it. Maybe, just maybe someone out there may be blessed by this write. One of the hardest ones I've written.

I’d Follow Him Anywhere

Even though my mind knows it was but a dream.

A wishful tiny speck of my heart hoped it was as it seemed.

It came the night my brother died, my heart was badly broken.

The dream was like a lifeline, a gift from God, a tiny little token.

As a child wherever my big brother went I was close behind.

He acted like he was angry but I know he really didn’t mind.

It was like a special game we played, he’d go off on his own.

And pretty soon I’d show up, like a puppy finding a bone.

So when my brother left that night on adventure all alone.

I had to follow close behind, its something he had known.

The only difference that time was, he was fully grown.

And I was still that little girl that didn’t want to be alone.

My little legs could hardly keep up with his lengthy strides.

And I was practically running through those billowing tides.

I knew we were in heaven because there were clouds all around.

I knew I was walking on diverse path, and not on solid ground.

I had no idea where he was leading me and I really didn’t care.

For I was following my brother and I’d follow him anywhere.

But when this large Golden Gate opened for him to go inside.

That Gate closed on me instantly and really hurt my pride.

My little head fit through the Gate so that I could see.

My brother walking forward and not looking back for me.

He came upon two people that seemed to be waiting there.

It was my sister and Mother both kneeling down in prayer.

As my brother walked closer, they stood with opened arms.

That’s when I suddenly realized and I began to feel alarms.

He hugged my Mother tightly and swung my sister in the air.

Oh, how can this be happening, none of this seems fair.

I cried with all my heart, “Come back Gary you’re all I’ve got.”

Suddenly each one turned & smiled but my pleas were all for naught.

My brother winked and smiled slowly with the half grin that he had.

That grin told me I could not follow which made me extremely sad.

I don’t know how long I stood there, as I watched loved ones walk away.

But somewhere deep inside me, I knew, I’d see them all again someday.

Love and hugs,

Bonnie

I wanted to cry as I read these beautiful and sad words...but...as I read further, I realized that there is only beauty in this story; You are here my friend...because that is God's plan! You don't have to worry or cry or wonder anymore about your brother, your sister or your mother...they are with God...What better place, and with whom could eternity be more wonderful? You, my dear are here to do what you do best....share your hope, your love and your inspiration with others...This dream was a visit...and one that is filled with love for you, the little girl who was left behind. Your husband, your children and grandchildren...my oh my...what would they do without your precious love? God planned this...and we are not to question.. This is a beautiful poem...and your talent is one that we all look forward to... I am so blessed to know you. hugs, lindalaw

Bonnie, my heart (and my tears) goes out to you in your loss. How beautiful that the Lord gave you this dream, reminding you of His love and care for your dear loved ones. It's hard to be the one outside the gate, but that emphasizes the fact that you have a life to be lived. Live it to the fullest, sweet Bonnie. You are following the calling the Lord God assigned just for you.
Love ya, my dear Sister, Connie

Oh Bonnie, my heart goes out to you. How I miss my brothers too. This is very well written, and must have been hard for you, I can't write about loved ones that are gone. Even though I know they are in a better place Your poem will give hope to those who doubt there is a next life. Thank you for sharing. I pray God continues to comfort you when you mourn, for I know they are always with us,but until we are with them, we will mourn.

Love and hugs,
Eileen

I am so sorry for your loss, and thank you for sharing your dreams. We had family friends who were murdered in 1997, I don't think the shock ever fully goes away.
