Imagine

The preacher gave a sermon on the last day in this old church.

For it was falling down around them, they were in a lurch.

We have little money to rebuild and restore God’s house.

All the wealthy parishioners sat there as quiet as a mouse.

But then an old poor carpenter stood up to declare.

That he didn’t need money to rebuild the church right there.

People were aghast with disbelief but felt less shame.

So they all applauded him and asked him for his name.

My name is Jesus and I will start to rebuild today.

So after the service was over, people decided to stay.

He gently removed the old church boards that were already there.

Then he sanded each single board and did it will loving care.

Someone handed him some varnish and he painted every board.

When he was finished they looked brand new and spirits really soared.

Then he straightened each and every nail he found in the old wood.

And pounded them in every board and as gently as he could.

He worked day and night until at last the shell was done.

Looking so beautiful and not one cent was used, not one.

He then took the pews one by one and made them look anew.

He did the same thing with the pulpit and the on-lookers grew.

He lovingly placed each pew in the new church that he just built.

It was like watching a master quilter making a lovely quilt.

What a masterpiece he built with nothing more than discarded wood.

But then again he’s our Savior, and HE is the only one that could.

So when we think we have been discarded by those who do not care.

Imagine what God can build, with no more than what was already there.
