Students readily admit that bullying is a problem. However, teachers sometimes feel that bullying is not a concern. If the students say it's a problem, it's a problem.

Then we must abide by their rules
I felt this one clear to my soul, Billy. I was a victim of bullying, not only at school, but at home. I still live with the memories, the pain years later; because of this, I don't have a good opinion of myself (I am working hard to change this). I am still very easily hurt when people say mean or unkind things to me; I am extremely sensitive, and at times I HATE it. We do need to teach our children about accepting differences in people; and it begins at home. If we teach our children to hate others based on race/religion/ethnicity/size, etc. then they will become bullies in the long run. The cycle continues. It is up to the parents to teach this, NOT the schools. I pray that your important message is heard; something needs to be done to end this epidemic of bullying!!

Secondly, as the victim of bullying myself, I think it begins at home, with the parents. WE NEED TO TEACH OUR CHILDREN TO ACCEPT DIFFERENCES IN PEOPLE. Children are smarter than given credit for: they pick up on their parent's fears and prejudices; they pick up on the total lack of respect for anything considered not "normal." WHAT IS NORMAL, anyway???????? I pray your message is spread far and wide.
