Tears caress a tender cheek
Of one who’s disposition is meek
Hazel eyes stare back at me
Question our parting bittersweet
Love tugs at my tender heart
Wisdom prevails so we must part

Seared synaptic traces now broken
From one who chose to remain so open
To love’s cruel fate of twists and turns
That destroys hope and respect once earned
My heart pierced by words unspoken
My life now squandered and forever broken

Tell me I’m hallucinating and delirious
Perhaps you mistook me too serious
First impressions reveal small truths
Behavior, not words, define the sleuth
Must you leave now for life’s too short
Redemptive grace heals while judgments distort

Your parting cuts like a slender scalpel
Painless penetration portends my struggle
To live without you seems impossible
After surrendering my heart once thought infallible
A shadow now defines your exit
Where once true beauty lifted my spirit

Once they have made their imprints they are forever there. In shadows, in memories, in our hearts.
First impressions are the only impressions, for after that, they never leave.
Beautiful work Keith.

It would be very difficult to write a farewell better or more meaningful than yours. I congratulate you and your talent. May this composition serve as your legacy in poetry about death of loved ones. - Bill
