Images and memories hold time still

Poem Artwork

Color, light, and shadow
Portray joy, hurt, and wonder
Ordinary events transformed
Captured in a millisecond
Into permanent synapses
Forever etched in tracings

Constrained by befores and afters
Defined and delineated by the artist
Behind the camera
Who sees what others only wish
To hold time still if for a second
To resurface later in old age

Landscapes, close-ups, flowers
Lightning, snow, and wrinkles
Seared by primary colors
Onto a four by six white card
Carried in purses and lockets
Wallets, albums, and memories

Words cannot do justice
To what the eyes see
And the mind remembers
Adds, subtracts, and abstracts
To remove reality from time
Captures only what is mine

To what the eyes see
