Life's little addictions can be toxic and kill.

Karla's demon storms spun flat via verses fair,

Daniel thrown into an Authors lion's Den bare,

Roy challenged all takers with whip and chair,

Bloody Monticor roars near this poet beware!

Alcoholic floods sets brain cells adrift,

Fiendish on cocaine, hashish or meth,

Like boozing Bohnams brothers vomit,

Choked on addiction's diaries of death.

Winehouse of drug rehab failure her no no no rejected,

Destroyed chemical balances of life with meds selected,

Musicality like a hideous Britney Toxic lifestyle infected,

Frisky youths chasing rock n' roll poets fall unprotected.

Think I'll check into mortality's hippy freak Hotel Cali,

Hanging outside in LA with pill poppin' pirate's glitter,

Journey to Hollywood's destinations snow's high Bali,

Cyber-addict acid zombie blobs of AD's undead bitter.

Life is full of addictions, some good ones, some not so good, but addictions just the same. To find the humble balance one must search their mind, heart and soul or be lost in mine field of the materialistic...

Be always safe,
Karen

I'm okay with being addicted to writing. It's one of my last vices. I gave the others up. Unfortunately, I can't say the same for lots of folks out there. Some great references in this poem reflect the world in which we're living. Nicely done. Am I "Roy"? lol. Keep smiling through it all:)

WOW! you are a man of courage as you enter the realms of lil'brother Jersey unprotected (we are family an know how to duck when he's around)
In this time and epoch, people has been closing their eyes, so, they are also addicted to no seeing the chemical realities of today.
Perhaps all is a product of my generation and a couple after that destroyed the youth illusions of a better world, and took example from John and Yoko and went to Nirvana where Prozac is an anathema.
Now, have you permission to land?

Georg

In reference to Karla's comment: Obviously, my metaphors were not too clear in the first verse. She is certainly Karla The Storm Spinner, and that first verse refers to her conquering daily and spinning flat the storm of her alcohol addiction she referred to in her poem, "Monster," which she has kept at bay for 24 years as of this writing today. Congrats, Karla! You inspired this poem for me.
Thank you my friend for your courage, and to all who have blessed me here. Thank you for making me a part of your AD family. It's great to be back, (Georg, you are a crazy old coot, but a heck of writer, and I love you anyway!). ;o)
Tis my honor.

Starman,

Wouldn't say I was addicted to storms - they've been finding me all these years, time to turn on them, take their picture, spin them down on paper, take a little of their bite out of them. But as writers, we are all addicted to the word, so write/right on! Well done.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

I'm trying to understand it. Read it 3 times so I guess I really am on the outside. I don't have any addictions, don't know any popular music or who wales them into the mic. Have I missed anything worthwhile? It doesn't sound like it. Very interesting write my friend. Hugs, J'nia
