“Escape to Paradise"
I do not wish to take the shame of men
and wear it as a coat that does not fit me
to play games with other people’s minds
to dare twist their trusting hearts in knots
and spin webs of painful lies and deceit
I do not seek relationships out of doors
nor those for me that are out of season
I merely wish to write the best poetry I can
and provide some escape for those lovers
to remind them how love should really be
between dreams and fantasies explored
residing deep within the heart and mind
while not taking what is not mine to take
I wish only to take those who wish to flee
on a journey of the hidden heart and soul
to soar over the common frailties of life
so maybe they will have some escape
from the deep loneliness of a lost cause
and feel a kiss upon their brazen cheeks
in the clear promise of a better tomorrow
and to sleep with love within their hearts
inspired to write about it upon awakening
to show them that romance lives eternal
despite hardships they may have endured
despite the heartbreaks of wrong choices
despite heartaches of unfortunate voices
and in unions that moved south of the line
and to make it one step bearable for them
for I am only but one man among the many
inspired enough to write of all my dreams
finding those secret passageways of love
determined to make it outlast even the stars
determined never to make any woman cry
but if I had the power I would love them all
through clones of the successes in loving
through ideas of worshipping Goddesses
joining the perfect circle of endless time
finding shortcuts to heaven’s sweet bliss
while still living here on an imperfect earth
and making every day a paradise by word
within the lines of a genuinely offered poem

Hi Amor.
You open your poem with these lines, "I do not wish to take the shame of men/and wear it as a coat that does not fit me/to play games with other people’s minds/to dare twist their trusting hearts in knots . . ."
In all honesty, the moment I read the beginning, I knew I was going to like your poem, and it certainly did not disappoint. In fact, I was really impressed. You have a unigue voice and style. You also maintain a musical cadence throughout the poem, achieving it without obvious rhyme, while each phrase, each word, yet contributes to a sense of rhythm that never falters. Moreover, the message you deliver is both evocative and profound. Kudos!

My favorite lines: "kiss upon their brazen cheeks in the clear promise..."; "wrong choices... unfortunate voices"; and "unions that moved south of the line" -- that last one holds so much meaning in it's few words. Blending Southern Gothic mystery romance, fantasy, theater, dance, music, and flashes of humor, tells the story of a pair of lovers in two separate time periods who find themselves battling an evil fifty years apart.
