Oh! The frail heart
Floundering on the rocks of empty promises
An unseaworthy vessel upon the sea of love
A fragile little boat battered upon the waves
bewildered as a torrent of green crashes about
a stressed bow heaving and listing in romance
My heart has shown seepage within the fractures
The mast and sails suddenly tattered in shreds
as passion and intimacy become floating debris
The heart has always been a ship on the waters
venturing out when there is no land in sight
by the grace of God traversing the vast ocean
where greater ships have found only the bottom
left alone to the faint whims of an uncaring storm
where the crests of emotions become inundating
where the unforgiving sea rushes into the voids
quickly filling the chambers with a liquid irony
Perseverance in belief is the only salvation
craving the calm waters of a tranquil harbor
It is a miracle alone that the heart can survive
through a treacherous sea of failed romance
Tempted by sirens to escape into the depths
Helpless as I fall victim to my own desperation
Seeking the purpose of why the heart beats;
The north, south, east and west of true love
as I navigate these cold and unfamiliar waters
guided only by the stars
So many poets liken the sea -- its dark waters, tumultuous waves, deep secrets, seemingly endless -- to the depths of a broken heart and how very effectively and beautifully you've done just that in this poem. "Oh, the frail heart" ~ Best, Elizabeth

Amor.. I have a mad passion for the sea; water tugs at me.. so your mesmerizing piece here held me completely rapt..oh, how the ocean lends itself to creative imaginings. As often as we, perhaps, turn to this backdrop, you have renewed the genre.. I absolutely love this poem! katy xox.
