I love to sit quietly and listen
To God getting ready for bed
And I smile to hear God's gentle creatures
As each lays down his or her head

The forest falls magically silent
As each one of them falls asleep
And I pray that God up there in Heaven
Will the souls of these gentle folk keep

I cannot imagine a world God
Where these gentle folk never would dwell
Why a place without God's creatures in it
Would be not but a version of Hell

And so as I sit on this evening
With these thoughts running 'round in my head
I take such great pleasure in listening
To God getting ready for bed.

For I am Nature's child...
