Why must you hide
disrespect, jealousy, gossip, hate
and no self-pride
Why must it be this way
such anger inside
Can't we all just be sistas
with love in our eyes

I guess it's easier said than done
How far have we come?
Well judging by our attitudes
the answer is an obvious one

Seek and ye shall find
the power of your own mind
Look within your heart and soul
before trying to reach
someone else's goals

no confidence
low self-esteem
anger from the past
fear
trying to be superwoman
needing approval from others
lack of focus

Listen to yourselves
such negativity in the air
Let's grow
let's move on
let's rise above
return to the place we should be
the reason why we are here
to love

Now close your eyes black women
Breathe out anger
frustration
lack of love
and all negativity
Now breathe in
and release

This poem is not meant to exclude women from other races. I wrote this poem after experiences I had in the work place (my first job) many years ago. The personal experiences that I had happened to be with other black women. This was my plea for the 5 women that I worked with, including myself. But I call on peace, love, unity and strength in ALL women.
